Winter Entry

This is the first year I've attempted to do anything at all in our front entry:

Until last month, I had no table to speak of for the entry.  So I cleaned and moved this side board which was left behind in our basement by the last owners of the home:

It needs a lot of work, but I wanted to have it in the room to see if I liked it there before I committed the time and money to it.

My starting point for the entry was the old window frame.  I purchased it at a really cute shop in Watervliet, Michigan this fall while we were there for a weekend with friends.  I can just hear my dad now "you bought that old window?"  It was cheap, but the fact is, when we bought this home we installed all new windows.  I could have kept one of the old ones, but, well, I never considered it at the time.

I added old sheet music which was given to me by my parents, who are both musicians, to the back of the frame.  Then, I grabbed this wire basket, which is usually in my son's big boy room, to add extra branch clippings and ornaments.  I seem to have an over abundance of ornaments in my home.

Things keep getting displaced in my home as I re-arrange the rooms.  This wedding photo is one of those items.  Given that we were married in December, just before Christmas, I thought it would make a nice addition to the "winter" table.

In this picture, we were walking along Michigan Avenue, in Chicago, right as it started to snow.  We turned around and the photog snapped the shot.  I love it!

The silver platter and glasses were thrift shop finds.  I'm using the glasses here as votives.

I added eucalyptus to one vase and branch clippings to the other.  I like the look of clippings grouped together in their own individual containers.

I purchased the lanterns a few years back at the Kane County Flea Market.  Oh, here comes someone to join me!

"Whatcha doing in the closet, mama?"

Soon after he joined me, my older son did as well.  While he was rummaging in the closet, he found this pocket watch, which originally belonged to my husbands grandfather:

I don't know why it was there, but it was.  So, I added it to the table and I like the sentimental addition!

Thanks for stopping by!  If you like what you see here, I'd love to hear about it or have you follow along with me!

  1. OK Dawn.
I daily check the links at the linky party and only clicked on yours (sorry to anyone else reading this), but i love clean, vintage-y, dark woods... and your foyer is lovely, so I am pinning it to the Deck the halls board. Again.
    Which space is next, LOL!?
    I just love your home!
