Master Bedroom: Summer Updates

I'm getting ready to share our home tour at another blog in June, and the only master bedroom pictures I have are from Christmas time.  So, I finally added a few last touches to the room for the summer and thought I would share them with you.

I love a beach-y, summery feel and went with that theme in our bedroom.  Luckily, I didn't have to make too many additions or changes from winter.  I kept the basic elements from before: simple and air-y with lots of whites, greys, and gold.  The bedding is simple and I changed out a grey quilt with a white one, and added blue paisley sheets (although those don't really come through in these pictures).

...our family pictures from last summer.  I can't believe how quickly these boys grow and change...

I LOVE the fresh smell of peonies, and nothing signals the beginning of summer like these beautiful blooms.  These are from our garden.

What I don't love quiet as much are the ants....I shook these off and still found a few critters running for their lives when I was taking the pictures.  Next time, I'll shake harder.....

I added my Pottery Barn candlesticks for height and added a few flowers to my glass votives.

I love this gold etagere, and it was free!  A generous aunt and uncle sold a home and they were no longer in need of the furnishings...no one claimed this baby so I was the lucky beneficiary!  It fits perfectly in this little space....

These books are the only purchase I made for the room update, but I think I came out ahead on the purchase.  You can read my original post here, but in short, I found them at Goodwill for $8 and a similar set recently sold on ebay for $125.

I have magazines EVERYWHERE, so I stacked a few of my favorites (Elle Decor) above and more in the basket below:

Come to think of it, I actually bought the basket recently for $8 at a resale shop.  I bought to carry flowers and veggies from the garden this summer.  But, for now, here it is.

You may have seen these pictures before, but I added this fern for a living element and to add texture.  Although it's been sitting here for over a month now, my husband asked me the other day why I brought the watering can upstairs.... "Um...to water the fern?"  "We have a fern?!?!  Oh...look at that!"

More of those books....can't get enough of them and now I want more!  :)

There is still a LOT of things to be done in this room: re-paint, bead board ceiling, a ceiling light fixture, purchase some rugs, and we would like to build a pelmet above the windows over the bed.  BUT, I'm happy with how far you can take a room with just some simple accessories and touches.  What do you think?
