Surprise Valentine Spa Day and Getaway

Last Thursday, my husband surprised me with the news that he had planned a spa day, dinner, and hotel stay for us downtown in the city.  And oh yeah....we were leaving the next morning at 10 am!  Today I thought I'd share with you some of my favorite pictures from our getaway at Allyu Spa and Hotel Monaco.

So...while I've been a bit M.I.A. on the blog lately, there was good reason!  I've also been working on this:

...but more on that later....

While I'm not here to review the spa or hotel, my experience was great at both places.  Both the hotel and spa were clean and the staff was wonderful.  Those two things are most important in my book!

I didn't actually take many pictures at the spa...I wasn't sure if it was allowed, and no, I didn't ask.  Shame on me.  However, to respect the privacy of the other guests I made sure not to snap any pics while anyone was around.

The spa had a Moroccan vibe going on starting at the entrance:

We waited for our spa services in the "relaxation tent."  ***this next picture is not mine, I found it here:

I was completely fascinated with the idea that this beam of light shining down into the tent was supposed to be rays of sun coming through the top of the tent:

My favorite image from the spa was of my shower, I LOVE how the door frames the shower head:

Next stop, Hotel Monaco lobby:

Lot's of vertical space here, so these over proportioned wing back chairs and stacked black and white prints stop the tall ceilings from dwarfing everything in the room.

I first posted about Hotel Monaco here; this is the hotel we stayed at the weekend of our wedding, and I fell in love with these huge window seats (and the views from them):

The hotel decor was completely remodeled since then, in fact it must have been done fairly recently because they were laying new floors in the lobby when we arrived.  Here are some more room views:

  5. Aww… Your husband is so sweet. Mostly, wives are the ones who do surprises like this. I am jealous of you now. I wish my husband would make a surprise like this too. Or, if not, I’ll do it for him. :) Anyway, this place is so beautiful. It looks peaceful and it feels relaxing. ->Chick Boardman
